Aidan Carroll

At 28 years old, Aidan Carroll, versatile bassist and composer has shared the stage with such artists as Donald Fagen, Warren Haynes, John Abercrombie, Ben Monder, Nasheet Waits, Adam Cruz and more. Aidan has performed at such international and stateside festivals as the Amazonas Jazz Festival, Pontevedra Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, Telluride Jazz Festival, Mountain Jam and others. His concept and approach to music which combines groove with melodic improvisation, and a deep sense of harmony, makes him a unique artist in his own right. Hailing from the unlikely city of Oklahoma City, Aidan grew up with his musical parents' support, and studied music avidly since a young boy. He played drums and percussion from the age of 10 until he was about 15 when he started to learn the bass. After winning numerous awards in the classical world, Aidan began to find jazz as his true calling. Upon graduation from the arts high school Classen of the Advanced Studies, Aidan received a full scholarship in jazz to attend the University of Central Oklahoma. While in college, Aidan played in the top big band all four years, as well as the orchestra and wind ensemble. While in school he won an award for outstanding soloist in 2003 at the Wichita State Jazz Fest, and a special scholarship for excellence in the music program at UCO in 2005. After graduating and before moving to New York for grad school, Aidan was selected to attend the prestigious Banff Creative Workshop. At Banff he was blessed to study with such artists as James Genus, Donny McCaslin, Dave Douglas, Rez Abassi and more. Aidan moved to New York in 2006 and attended The City College of New York where he worked with mentor John Patitucci for two years and earned his Masters in Jazz Performance. Since moving to New York Aidan has had many great opportunities working in town and abroad. He has recorded with artists like Fred Hersch, Ralph Alessi, Seamus Blake, and toured with Dan Tepfer, Logan Richardson, and South African singer Chiwoniso. He has also been working as a bandleader in the past few years, performing at venues such as Smalls, Cornelia St. Cafe, and Rockwood Music Hall. His band consists of a rotating cast of some of New York's finest musicians: John Ellis, Logan Richardson, Matt Stevens, David Bryant, Justin Brown, and Jochen Rueckert. These days Aidan splits his time between freelancing in NYC, playing and leading his own group, and touring with national/soul band Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds.
