Born: December 22, 1987
Toronto born guitarist and composer Alex Goodman is establishing himself as a major force on the Canadian jazz scene. He has released three albums as a leader, his most recent, “Bridges” reached #1 on the national Chartattack and !Earshot jazz charts. Prior to that, his second CD “Convergence” was voted as one of the top ten jazz records of 2010 (!Earshot). He has toured across the country and has performed at such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Massey Hall and the CBC’s Glenn Gould studio.
Upon completing his Bachelor of Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto he was honored as the first jazz musician to have been awarded the William and Phyllis Waters Graduating Award for the “student deemed to have the greatest potential to make an important contribution to the field of music.” Alex has also been honored with over a dozen national music awards including the Domenic Troiano Guitar Scholarship, the Archie Alleyne Award and recognition as a CBC “rising star.” The Alex Goodman Quintet was a finalist in the 2011 Grand Prix de Jazz competition at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. He has been featured with major national media such as CityTV news, Global BC, the Edmonton Journal and the Ottawa Citizen. His music can regularly be heard on CBC, Galaxie jazz and Jazz.FM....
