Accomplished Guitarist / Composer Tony Darren, whose diverse talent encompasses many musical styles from Jazz and R&B to Pop and Classical. Tony garnered a SESAC national performance award as well as a GRAMMY consideration for best new contemporary jazz artist for his CD, Sun Song. His first single hit #40 on the Gavin Contemporary Jazz charts (on over 100 stations coast to coast) and remained on the national charts for over 16 weeks. Tony first began studying guitar with renowned teacher & author Ted Greene, forming a deep bond that would last until Ted's untimely death. Regarded by his peers as among one of the top contemporary Jazz Guitarists, Tony's gift for capturing feeling in beautiful melodies is immediate and infectious and while he displays a casual tone, his virtuosity and technique are always evident. Featured in such publications as Guitarist, Jazziz, Down Beat, JazzTimes and TV's CNN ShowBiz Tonight, Tony has worked with such diverse artists as Shadowfax, Tom Scott, Pat Martino, Faith No More, Narada Michael Walden, Jeff Lorber, Wire Train, Freddie Hubbard, Gregg Karukas, Airto, Fresh Kid Ice, Brandon Fields, Alphonso Johnson, Lenny Castro, Mr. Big, Warren Hill, Cher, Joe Sample, Don Randi, Richard Bennett, Al Schmitt, James Torme, Vinnie Colaiuta and many others. Tony has also composed music for TV shows such as Melrose Place, Murder She Wrote, Young and the Restless, the Weather Channel, ESPN and various PBS specials. In addition, Tony has also shared the stage performing and touring with his own group, teaching, doing clinics and touring with other major acts around the world. His international debut recording on the Telarc / Concord Music Group label has received universal critical acclaim, and continues to sell worldwide with over 50,000 copies sold. After having lived in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, Tony now resides in the San Francisco bay area. Tony endorses GHS strings, Ibanez guitars and Carvin instruments.
