Carl Schultz

Carl Schultz was born in the suburbs of Philadelphia but moved to New York in the early 2000s to begin studying at SUNY Purchase. During his time in New York Schultz was fortunate to participate in creative projects with musicians like James Shipp and Ray Vega. In 2006, Schultz returned to Philadelphia to continue his education at The University of The Arts where he studied with Ben Schachter and began performing with local groups like the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra and The Philly Big Band, as well as leading his own quartet. Moving to Colorado in 2014, Schultz began graduate studies at The University of Colorado. It was here that he met and played with musicians like Art Lande and Brad Goode; figures who would be largely influential. Schultz has toured internationally including time spent performing with The Glenn Miller Orchestra among others and released his first album as a leader in 2021. ACT reACT features the playing and compositions of one of his idols, Art Lande. Schultz currently resides in San Jose where he serves as the Director of Jazz Studies for Santa Clara University.
