Cold Reading Trio

Cold Reading Trio explores the territory between original and imitation in a constantly evolving musical dialog. They construct electro-acoustic environments featuring two-way interactions between live instruments and processed samples of these instruments created in real-time. The result is a texture encompassing the complete spectral range between the extremes of acoustic and electric sound. Every time Cold Reading Trio performs the experience is completely different. The group’s variety of instruments creates a shifting palette of sound, which is then augmented and multiplied by live layered sampling. Sometimes spoken text, vocalizations, or even the introduction of the band’s members and other banter in-between improvisations become part of the musical landscape and are fair game for sampling, processing, and/or storing for later use. Prepared samples of found sounds, computer generated signals, glitches, and pre-recorded musical excepts are also used as source materials. The members of the group refuse to settle into pre-defined roles and are constantly experimenting and evolving. Each member has the ability to step-up and claim solo space or to be comfortable in a supporting role. Large-scale form is important to Cold Reading Trio and each improvisation unfolds its form in a unique way.
