Dan Meinhardt is a young saxophonist quickly making a name for himself. He has made appearances with some of the Northwest's finest musicians and has been a first-call player for touring groups and pits.

In June 2012, Dan released his first album, Gone West. It contains eight original compositions and features some of the best musicians from Chicago, San Francisco and Oregon.

Dan attended Lawrence University and earned a Bachelors degree in Saxophone Performance, graduating in 2010. After receiving a Masters in Jazz Studies, Dan returned to the Midwest and is establishing himself in Chicago as a performer, educator and composer.

Primary Instrument:

Credentials/Background:
I strive to help my students progress in the music they enjoy. While I keep them grounded in fundamentals and build a base of technique, my aim helps to identify specific elements of the music they enjoy and how to incorporate those elements into their own musical creation. As a teacher, I encourage my students to ask questions and I hope to give them the tools they need to have the ability to answer those questions. I graduated from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in 2010, where I studied with Steven Jordheim and Fred Sturm, among others, gaining a strong background in pedagogy, from classical to jazz. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Oregon with a Masters in Jazz Studies. While at UO, I served as a graduate teaching fellow, instructing undergraduate courses in jazz. I've held a private studio of beginning to advanced saxophone and clarinet students for eight years.

Clinic/Workshop Information:
The point of a guest clinician is to open students' ears to ideas in an unfamiliar way. I strive to help groups make better music by giving them a new perspective on the music-making process. During my clinics, students are able to excel while making music together, whether it's a piece they've been playing all year or something they learn during the clinic. Students walk away with new ideas and inspiration for continued success.
