David Galea

David has been playing Bass for at least fifteen years and professionally for 12 he has played in various situations ranging from Blues, jazz,Pop funk and anything else that grooves. At the moment he is working hard writting an arranging for the "BassBoy band". The "BassBoy Band" could be described as a combination of jazz, funk and fusion. David had been toying with the idea of this band for a few years. He has played with each member of the band in different settings but this is the first project were they have all come together, the result of this collaboration has been the release their first album entitled (funny enough) "Bass Boy" which was official released on the 25th of August to a packed crowd at Jazzworx. The "BassBoy Band" has been set up as a vehicle for original jazz and funk music in which each player has the freedom to express themselves musically, while still working towards the overall sound of the band. By combining interesting compositions and arrangements with improvisation, the "BassBoy Band" is able to develop a contemporary sound that has been carved out of a jazz sensibility. The "BassBoy" Album was recorded over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of February 2008 at Alchemix studios. The album has received some very positive comments even in the short time since its release. It is know available from CD baby and through itunes.

What are people saying about "BassBoy"?

“While this recording represents David’s first solo CD, it treats the listener to whole lot more than just jazz-funk bass. Throughout the CD the jazz vehicle is embraced through some impressive improvisations from across the band. Guitarist Matt Carpenter’s solo on T.B.D and the Fusion Fighters features the hard, cutting, metallic tones in the style of John McLaughlin, complimented by a more gentle lyricism provided by Peta Wilson on Rhodes…Overall, this is an exciting new work that promises to contribute widely to a sector that is crying out for product that engages young audiences, I just hope that this band doesn’t stop there and continues to seek new boundaries with the sensibilities of their predecessors.”- Jim Bud ,www.jazzqueensland.com ..
