David J White

David J White became a student of the saxophone at age 8 in his hometown of Houston, Texas, where his love for Jazz was nurtured by outstanding musicians and educators such as Conrad O Johnson, Craig Green, and Dr. Robert Morgan. At age 16 he began appearing with local bands in clubs and other musical events. During high school David appeared in Saxophone Journal and other Jazz education periodicals and won several awards including a "DB" award from downbeat magazine. He also performed with Rich Matheson, Billy Harper, Randy Brecker & Eliane Elias, and Lou Marini. David moved to Washington, D.C to attend Howard University and contributed to the Jazz Ensemble's yearly recordings both as a performer and composer/producer. In 1992 David met internationally renowned film maker Haile Gerima and composed, produced and performed the sound track for the critically acclaimed film "Sankofa". He went on to score other films including "Through The Door Of No Return". "Where I Left Off" is his second release on his own label. This CD represents a more aggressive style of composition and performance than his first CD "Rememory". It was produced and mixed entirely by David in his private studio (dark piano studios) with David serving as producer performer and engineer. It also features two of his long time friends and band mates Dennis Benjamin on guitar and James McKinney on keyboards. He also created all the artwork for the project and website. Look for more from this artist as he continues to create and expand his style and compositions.
