Delta Saxophone Quartet: Bowie, Berlin & Beyond

Read "Bowie, Berlin & Beyond" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

This first-rate UK-based saxophone quartet has been in existence since 1984, and it is celebrated for its thought-provoking reimagining of well-known works from progressive rock icons such as King Crimson on Crimson! (Basho Music, 2016), and a cunning slant on Soft Machine, Dedicated to You... But You Weren't Listening (Moonjune, 2007). Here, the musicians derive inspiration from David Bowie's Berlin years and the significance of his association with producer, composer and trailblazing ambient-electronic artist, Brian Eno. The immaculate ...

Delta Saxophone Quartet e Gwilym Simcock al Teatro Manzoni di Milano

Read "Delta Saxophone Quartet e Gwilym Simcock al Teatro Manzoni di Milano" reviewed by Claudio Bonomi

Delta Saxophone Quartet feat. Gwilym Simcock Aperitivo in Concerto Teatro Manzoni Milano -30.11.2014 Ma cosa c'entrano i King Crimson con il jazz? Siamo sinceri, poco o nulla. Se non fosse forse per la fortissima inclinazione all'improvvisazione che il gruppo guidato da Robert Fripp ha sempre avuto sin dalle sue origini nel lontano 1969 ,le affinità sono veramente poche. It amounts to a rethinking of music that was nearly always distinctive. The approach here ensures that it ends up only more so, and not simply because a saxophone quartet is some kind of polar opposite to how that band rendered the music.

The fact that the music is able to withstand such ...

Delta Saxophone Quartet: Dedicated to You...But You Weren't Listening - The Music of Soft Machine

Read "Dedicated to You...But You Weren't Listening - The Music of Soft Machine" reviewed by John Kelman

The legacy of Soft Machine continues to be felt to this day through alumni-related projects including Soft Bounds, Soft Mountain and Soft Machine Legacy. But it's the Delta Saxophone Quartet's Dedicated to You...But You Weren't Listening--The Music of Soft Machine that may be the most revelational...and revolutionary look at a legendary British group that ran the gamut from post-Dadaist psychedelia to free jazz and fusion between 1966 and 1981.

Those familiar with Soft Machine can draw ...

MoonJune records announces the new release: DELTA SAXOPHONE QUARTET “Dedicated To You But You Weren't Listening - The Music Of Soft Machine" Formed in 1984, the Delta Saxophone Quartet has never sought, or needed to find, a level or a comfort zone. Whether performing works by Steve Martland, Mike Westbrook, Steve Reich, Philip Glass or Terry Riley, their musical choices have always come with their own demands and challenges. Sometimes personnel changes merely solidify an existing repertoire and dampen the ...
