3 Cohens
They Attended the Tel-Aviv School for the Arts, the "Thelma Yalin" high school for the arts and the "Jaffa" Music conservatory.
The 3Cohens had a classical music background that included some symphonic orchestral playing. But it didn't take long before the 3 discovered their life long love to jazz music.
And then there was Berklee College of Music. The World Scholarship Tour awarded the 3 of them scholarships the attend Berklee. The 3 got to expand their musical taste and to develop themselves musically at the College and after graduating. In November 2002 the 3 formed a sextet and performed in a jazz festival in Poland, playing their original music. That was the beginning of their debut album, "ONE".
Since then, the 3 Siblings have been performing as often as possible. their concerts include performances in the Lodz Jazz festival (Poland, 2003) the Tel-Aviv Jazz festival (2004), Caesarea Jazz party " in a special program of the music of Louis Armstrong (2005), NYC (2006) and the Givatayim Jazz festival in Israel (2005, 2006 and 2007).
The remarkable story of 3 Cohens, continues with the release of Braid (2007, Anzic Records). It is obvious that the Cohens would have some sort of telepathy and symbiosis on the bandstand and in the studio, but the level of interplay and musical cooperation that exists between the siblings on Braid can only be described as astounding. Their individual virtuosity, creativity and exceptional taste only serve to enhance the music that primarily stems from their mutual respect and love for one another, as family, and as musicians.

3 Cohens: Tightrope

It shouldn't come as a shock that the 3 Cohens stress the idea of interconnectedness in their music; soprano saxophonist Yuval Cohen, multi-reedist Anat Cohen and trumpeter Avishai Cohen are, after all, blood. With albums like One (Anzic, 2004), Braid (Anzic, 2007) and Family (Anzic, 2011), these three horn-playing siblings have made it clear that they're forever linked to one another in life and music, but they don't always address these bonds in the same fashion. Braid, for example, was ...

Anat, Uval and Avishai CohenThe Village VanguardNew York, New YorkJune 23, 2009If jazz is an attitude, then the Cohen family has it in spades. That much was evident from the moment Anat, Yuval and Avishai took the hallowed Village Vanguard stage on a sweaty Tuesday night. In a set whose moods ran the gamut from joyous to melancholy, with a bit of humor thrown in for good measure, there was nary a complacent moment as ...

On this disc, recorded in a Brooklyn studio in the summer of 2006, the three Cohen siblings blend their many individual influences into one happy family outing. While reed player Anat's work clearly has more of a Latin vibe (thanks to work with groups like Choro Ensemble and her Brazilian jazz quartet), her brothers--trumpeter Avishai and saxophonist Yuval--seem to draw inspiration mostly from European and Middle-Eastern jazz. Working together, the trio has a noticeable chemistry that is undeniable--according to the ...

To the ranks of soulful jazz families like the Heaths of Philadelphia, the Joneses of Detroit and the Marsalises of New Orleans, fans can now add the 3 Cohens of Tel-Aviv, a talented Israeli combo featuring tenor saxophonist/clarinetist Anat Cohen and her brothers Yuval on soprano sax and Avishai on trumpet, who are hitting their stride on their sophomore collective effort, Braid.
The aptly-titled album sums up the telepathic, conversational interplay of the Cohens; musically, their inside jokes, finishing of ...

Jazz ensembles comprised of siblings are rare but not uncommon (The Heath Brothers--Jimmy and Percy, the well-known Marsalis brothers, and the Moutin twins--François and Louis). The 3 Cohens can be added to the list and show that it's a truly a family affair of musical harmony on their sophomore release Braid. The 3 Cohens--sister Anat (clarinet/saxophone) and brothers Yuval (saxophone) and Avishai (trumpet)--have performed in various groups and locales from Tel Aviv to New York City. They're ...
