Aivar Vassiljev

Percussionist and jazz musician Aivar Vassiljev was born on December 11, 1971 in Otepää, Estonia. 1990-1994 studied classical percussions in Tartu H.Eller Musical College by Raivo Rebane and Margus Tammemägi. Master courses followed in Finland by Markku Ounaskari jazz band in 2000 and in Estonia by Brian Melvin in 2002 and Thomas Jimeno D. Cuban music courses in 2003 and 2004. His musical activities and the interest in jazz music began playing in the school dixieland band of Tartu 10. Secondary School in 1992. 1992-1994 he played in the symphony orchestra of “Vanemuine” theatre. In 1995 he settled in Tallinn and began to play in the symphony orchestra of Estonian National Opera, was active in Police Brass Band, started to play with double bassist Toivo Unt. From the year 2004 he is teaching rhythmics and drum set in Tallinn G.Ots Musical College. He has performed together with Ted Curson, Leroy Jones, Larry Price, Ron Maclure, Chip Shelton, Joe Lee Wilson (USA), Alan Matheson,Nick”The Brownman” Ali (Canada), Georgi Garanjan, Gasan Bagirov, David Goloshtshokin (Russia),Mika Müllari, Atro “Wade” Mikkola (Finland), with Mina Agossi (France),
