Brinae Ali

Alexandria “Brinae Ali” Bradley’s background in the arts is quite extensive. Her first experience began at age three when she put on her first pair of tap shoes. This introduction ushered in her destiny. Under the guidance of her father, Alfred Bruce Bradley, and the Creative Expressions Dance Studio in Flint, Michigan, her gift and love for music, dance and theatre afforded her the opportunity to enhance and display her talents through a host of venues. Throughout high school, she worked as a choreographer and dance instructor of ballet, jazz, and tap. As well, she ventured into vocal and instrumental music.

For the past twenty -one years Bradley has been walking in purpose with a multitude of gifts that was bestowed upon her through heredity and culture. She has been blessed with extraordinary talent like that of a magician. For instance, music taps into the essence of the soul and has the power to transform the condition of the human spirit. As a practitioner of the arts, it is a responsibility to utilize every opportunity to enhance her craft.

At age 14, her understanding and appreciation of the arts was amplified through a host of opportunities springing from exposure to the tap community and the Chicago Human Rhythm Project. Bradley was introduced to such tap masters Ted Levy, Jimmy Slyde, and Savion Glover. It was from these experiences that her performance career took off. Along side her sister, Frances and childhood friend Kandee Hogan, she performed on Showtime at the Apollo, the Tap Festival in St.Louis , Missouri, and was invited to join Savion’s new tap company Ti Dii. Her first international performance was in the Cannes Film Festival in France. From there she went on to participate in the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, Monaco, as well as the France Nijinsky Awards and Improvography at the Joyce Theater. Alexandria has worked with George Faison and Diahann Carroll in the 2004 National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia as a dancer/ vocalist in a production of “Bubblin’ Brown Sugar.”

Upon relocating in New York City, Bradley began working with Queen’s area youth as a dance instructor and mentor to young adults and girls who aspire to excel in the arts. Through her association and mentorship with Ted Levy, she secured a position as an adjunct professor at Queens College and Long Island University in New York. Furthermore, her commitment to the community can be seen in her family’s ability to organize artists from across the country to participate in Tapology Festival for Youth. She is currently living and working in Philadelphia teaching, performing, and working on her music project “The JAK B Experience” and collaborating with other musicians such as Joe Chambers, Farid Barron and “The Myth Story Science trio”, warren Oree and the Arpeggio jazz ensemble, Germaine Ingram and Tyrone Brown, and Troupe DADA African Drum and Dance ensemble. In October 2006 bradley was honored by the Columbia university jazz education department to sit on a panel sharing her contribution and experience in tap and jazz culture with Dianne Walker and Germaine Ingram.
