Chris Hersch

Boston-based guitarist Chris Hersch is part of the new "folk jazz" movement emmerging in the northeast. Chris Hersch's unique style of guitar playing blends jazz, folk, and odd metered trance melodies. Chris Hersch is known as a founding member of the Daniel Bennett Group. Hersch also performs with Laurel Grove, Martin's Creek, and Colin Stack's Leftovers.

Chris Hersch moved to Boston in 2000 to study Jazz Guitar Performance at the New England Conservatory. There he was a student of John Abercrombie, Ben Monder, Jerry Bergonzi, Steve Lacey and John McNeil. During his time at the New England Conservatory, Chris Hersch also began studying banjo and American folk music. Since that time, Chris Hersch's music has blended elements of the jazz language with the Banjo tradition.

Chris Hersch is a faculty member at the Powers Music School, Cape Cod Conservatory, and the Community Music Center of Boston. Hersch has played many venues around the world, including the Pocono Jazz Festival, Bethlahem Music Festival, Bennett Alliance Music Fest, Jordan Hall, and Moravian Hall.
