David W. Hansen

A New Orleans drummer and entrepreneur who performs worldwide, maintains a heavy performance schedule in New Orleans and operates a music booking agency for Louisiana artists. David has travelled, toured and performed with Jimmy LaRocca's Original Dixieland Jazz Band®, Tim Laughlin, his own Garden District Band and the New Orleans Spice® - Brass and Jazz Band.

David is from British Columbia, Canada and had the honor to attend and receive music degrees from Malaspina College (1984 Associate Diploma in Music)[now Vancouver Island University] in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada and the University of North Texas (1990 Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, Performance, Percussion Emphasis) in Denton, TX.

Mr. Hansen began studying drums at age eight and has been a professional drummer and drum instructor since 1979, a band leader, manager, agent and business entrepreneur since 1994 and an entertainment director for various New Orleans companies since 2004.

Awards

2009 (April 18) Winner of the French Quarter Festival; "Battle of the Bands" David Hansen's New Orleans Spice® Brass Band. 2007 "Music Scholar" for the Smithsonian traveling exhibit "New Harmonies: Celebrating America's Roots Music": Organized an interactive jazz lecture and performance sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
