Dimos Dimitriadis

Saxophonist, educator and Fulbright Artist/Scholar Dimos Dimitriadis has been regarded as a “powerful, dynamic and unpredictable contemporary jazz saxophonist with a great sound” by “NEA Jazz Masters Award” recipient saxophonist Dave Liebman

Dimos Dimitriadis cultivated his professional musical skills in the culture of US institutions like Berklee College of Music, and the New England Conservatory in Boston next to prominent jazz educators such as Joe Viola, George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, Hal Crook and others.

Focusing on jazz, free improvisation and contemporary composition he shaped his personal musical vision during trips to Italy, France and Scandinavia, drawing inspiration from the diverse European cultures and the groundbreaking work of his mentors and friends soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy, and pianist Mal Waldron.

His international training and strong performance skills have brought him to record and perform next to some of the leading jazz musicians in the world (such as US artists Tim Hagans, Adam Nussbaum, Ron McClure, Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Keith Copeland, Jonathan Kreisberg, Rick Peckam, Chico Freeman, Ricky Ford and Ran Blake.

Dimos Dimitriadis is a well-traveled musician with multi-language skills and a firm grasp of the world’s music scene. From the USA to Brazil and South Africa, his musical activities have also brought him to Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, Portugal, Poland, Croatia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Cyprus and eventually his homeland Greece.

Dimitriadis is regarded as a key figure in musical education in Greece. He is the founder of the unique and highly successful Jazz Studies Program at the Ionian University in Corfu, Greece where he now holds the position of Professor of Saxophone and Head of Jazz Studies, the first academic position given to a jazz musician in this country.

As an educator of international recognition he has taught as guest professor at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, the Sibelius Academy Jazz Department in Finland, the Vienna Conservatory and Graz University for the Arts in Austria, the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, the Bowling Green State University College of Musical Arts in Ohio, the Newpark Music Centre in Ireland, the University of Nicosia and the European University in Cyprus and other institutions.

In 2013 Dimitriadis was re-elected secretary of the Daily Board of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ) a position he has held since 2003. For more than 10 years he has been organizing and monitoring jazz education meetings and conferences in major educational institutions in Europe and the US.
