Dylan Taylor

My first instrument was cello, then electric bass. When I found Jazz the upright bass found me. I have spent most of my life in Philadelphia except for a few years studying with John Patittucci in New York. Also studied with Buster Williams, Dennis Sandole and Al Stauffer. Played for many years and recorded with Ken Ulansey and Heath Allen, also with the Tom Lawton trio at the four seasons Hotel and Tony Williams Quartet at the Ritz Carlton. Was a long time member of Bobby Zankel's big band, made two records with them and a trio record with Edgar Bateman. I have also recorded with Larry Coryell and Mike Clark, Butch Ballard and Sam Dockery, Khan Jamal, and Kelly Meashey among others.

Vocalist-driven projects remain a minority venture in the ever-expanding CIMP catalog. The label has a reputation for providing emancipatory forums for free jazz and improvisation. Such sessions are its bread and butter, so to speak. In spite of the naysayers who deride its recording philosophy, CIMP’s track record for quality music is difficult to dispute. Sweeter For The Struggle - New Album By Dylan Taylor

Sweeter for the Struggle is more than just another jazz release in 2013. Dylan Taylor sees the album, and the larger dialogue of jazz in our modern times, as hope for the new world. People from all backgrounds can come together and take part in this tradition. Much like a lotus flower emerges from the mud, jazz has emerged from oppressive and turbulent times to be a music that is of pure beauty. What better way to propel this message ...
