EYOT

"This is just simply quite stunning." / Mike Chadwick - SoulandJazz.com - Snarky Puppy's manager

" electro jazz rock fusion - you name it they play it - full of energy and invention - a top class act .." Tim Dickeson, Jazzwise

"a future-minded, exciting collision of various genres creating happening music –" Gilles Quinnell / PIAS Harmonia Mundi World Village

“It's every serious group's desire to craft an identifiable, and as far as possible, a unique sound whereby just a few notes leave little doubt about who's playing. Serbian quartet Eyot achieved that with its splendid debut, Horizon (Ninety and Nine Records,2011), where minimalism and power went hand-in-hand in an intoxicating mix of jazz, art-rock, classical and Balkan folk melodies. Drifters largely follows the same blueprint, though there is perhaps greater density in the group's sound (…) It doesn't take too great a leap of imagination to see the power of Eyot in concert. That fact Eyot has played jazz, punk and rock festivals, as well as in Cultural Centers, says something about the special chemistry of the diverse musical elements that makes Drifters such a rewarding experience and a fine follow-up to its debut. A band to watch out for.” Ian Paterson @ http://www.allaboutjazz.com

"Eyot's music has a flow, a forward motion, that suggests the band is constantly attempting to extend its musical horizon. It's a feeling that was already present on Eyot's debut release, called Horizon (Ninety And Nine Records, 2011), but the fuller sound to be found on Similarity accentuates it and gives it added urgency. These are exciting times for Eyot." Bruce Lindsay @ http://www.allaboutjazz.com/

"The proud representative of a new generation of European musicians, this Serbian quartet breaks all temporal, geographical and cultural boundaries of Balkan Jazz, explosively blending classical music, art-rock and traditional melodies. In its quest for new creative sound combinations, Eyot restlessly explores the limits between tradition and innovation and leads European Jazz off the beaten track. Known as the "Nirvana of Jazz", the four musicians light up the stage with outstandingly fresh and electrifying sounds. The quartet brings to life a music of unique creativity which strikes a pleasant balance between simplicity and sophistication, and is both coarse yet delicate." Cully Jazz Festival

Eyot: 557799

557799 is the fifth album from Serbian jazz fusion quartet EYOT since its debut, Horizon, was released in 2011. It follows on from 2017's Innate (produced by Steve Albini in Chicago) and builds on that album's mix of prog, hard rock and jazz. But this time composer and pianist Dejan Ilijic draws on Balkan myths and traditions, composers such as John Williams and Bruckner, and Sting's album The Soul Cages. The result is another impressive, often beautiful and always intriguing ...

Eyot: Innate

The drama of prog, the heft of rock and the subtleties of the jazz quartet all combine on Innate, the fourth album from Serbian quartet Eyot. This time round, the group has decamped to Chicago for recording purposes. Courtesy of big-name engineer/producer Steve Albini Innate benefits from excellent sound quality, which enhances the drama of much of the music. The seven tunes are all written and arranged by the band, led by pianist Dejan Ilijic. Eyot has the ...

Atmosphere. That oft-indefinable feel that music can have, the creation of a mood or a sensation that inveigles itself into a listener's mind and captures the imagination. It's not melody, harmony or rhythm but it needs all three. Eyot--a four-piece from Serbia--has a great line in atmosphere, ably demonstrated on the band's third album, Similarity. Album opener “How Shall The Dust Storm Start" perfectly encapsulates Eyot's atmospheric approach--the rhythm crafted by bassist Marko Stojiljkovic and drummer Milos Vojvodic ...

EYOT: Horizon

Read "Horizon" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Formed in 2008 by pianist and composer Dejan Ilijic, EYOT creates a distinctive and rather beautiful sound based on a mix of jazz, prog rock and contemporary classical influences. The Serbian quartet's debut, Horizon, recorded in November 2009, is a collection of nine Ilijic tunes, showcasing his sparse and surprisingly delicate approach to composition. The band is adept at building each tune gradually, layering sounds on top of each other with restraint and creating real tensions. Often ...

Serbian jazz quartet EYOT will join Ron Carter, Dominic Miller, Stefano Battaglia, Kenny Barron and other acclaimed international jazz bands in Italy at the 17th annual Vicenza Jazz Fest in May 2012. The four brilliant young Eastern European musicians will perform their jazz fusion on May 5 and May 6, 2012. "There was a real force behind them, driving like a battering ram at times, it swept to and fro, with a rhythm that was reflected in their final tune's Balkan beat. It was modern medieval jazz, raw and uncut in the main with flashes of sophisticated beauty, like being transfixed by the hidden complexities of a gargoyle whilst standing in the shadow of a gothic cathedral. Wonder and darkness.”

Alban Low,artofjazz.blogspot.co.uk/ ( London Jazz Café gig review )

"Eyot is however on to an amazing fresh sound and approach to a more contemporary sound that could be the next big thing here in the States. (...) A perfect mix of the old and the new forming a new sonic alliance for a new generation."
