Felipe Villar

Guitarist Felipe Villar (Vigo, 1976), started studying classical guitar but after a long period interested in Blues and Funk became more interested in Jazz. He obtained his degree in Jazz in ESMAE (Oporto) in 2011. He also took lessons with people like Abe Rabade, Nuno Ferreira, Jordi Rossy, Peter Bernstein, Michael Kanan, Jonathan Kreisberg, Lage Lund, Walter Smith, Marcus Strickland, Mike Moreno, Aaron Goldberg, Jonathan Blake, Dave Liebman, Gilad Heckselman or Greg Ruggiero among prominent an endless list. He plays in bands like Alberto Vilas Quintet, Rua da Alegria, Javier Marcos Trio, Jazzología, Antonio Otero Quartet, The Groove Project, Ten Jazz Men. Also leads his own trio and quartet. He played in festivals like Pontevedra Jazz Festival, Festival de Jazz de Lugo, Nigranjazz, Imaxina Sons,or the most important jazz clubs in Galicia Xancarajazz, Filloa, Clavicembalo, Dado Dada ...

He recorded with his trio in January 2014 his first album as a leader, "Home", with Max Gomez on drums and Jose Manuel Diaz on double bass. Six original compositions and three standards, Home was recorded live in his home studio, His second album "Outro" came out less than a year after, with the same vibe of Home.

His discography starts back in 2000 with a funk called Travel Hats. In 2011 he recorded the first album by pianist Alberto Vilas: "Experianza" published by AZos Jazz. In 2012 recorded in Porto the first album of Portuguese Spanish-septet Rua da Alegria: "101"and in 2013 he recorded the second album with Alberto Vilas Quintet: "Crónica Cromática".
