Jvera
This is not his first solo album. Already with “Concepts” (Schoot Records, 2006) he introduced us to his musical style and vision, surrounded by old friends of pedigree, some of whom collaborate once again on this new album: Antonio Serrano and Jorge Pardo again share their great mastery, alongside the noted contributions of Santi Ibarretxe or Manuel Machado who, amongst many, are more than worth a mention.
The voice of each musician takes its place in the relaxed atmosphere of the music, where groove and talent are in abundance and overflowing with strength and substance. One greatly appreciates the generosity with which Vera distributes the roles and creates space in each piece, avoiding gratuitous solos and at the same time allowing each musician to breathe and express themselves naturally.
We encounter moments which remind us of an authentic jam session, alternating with others which adhere to the definition of the score (primarily in the mid tempo numbers). Vera has achieved a well balanced album, where for once the term “fusion” can be used positively. The ambience of jazz is soaked in funk, blending colours of the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, and resulting in an electrical combination.
The best thing about “Butterfly” is that it leaves a wonderful taste which makes you want to listen again and again. You just can’t get enough.
