MK Groove Orchestra

Taking the big band into the new millennium, Brooklyn's own MK Groove Orchestra has developed an innovative approach to one of America's oldest art forms that satisfies audiences as diverse as its musical palette.

Steeped in tradition, and looking towards the future, the MK Groove Orchestra is comprised of some of NYC's finest up and coming talent performing well arranged originals and choice covers with musicality, energy and precision. Inspired by the likes of Jimmy Mcgriff, Tito Puente, Sun Ra, and others too numerous to list, the MK Groove Orchestra has developed a unique sound and sensibility that has been crafted over the last 6 years performing regularly at venues throughout New York state.

The MKGO has performed at the Blue Note and the Knitting Factory in New york as well as appearing at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Syracuse Jazz in the Square Jazz Festival, the Williamsburg Brooklyn Jazz Festival, and the New York Burlesque Festival. Our first album is available at a record store near you ( if you happen to be in Japan ) thanks to Velour Records.

Clinic/Workshop Information

The objectives of our clinic are to expose students to concepts, history and artists outside of the realm of the standard jazz curriculum that we feel are a vital part of the music, through performance, discussion and workshop-ing of MK Groove Orchestra Repertoire. We aim to establish a dialogue with students, while engaging them and challenging them to absorb new concepts and question old ones. Perhaps the most important service we offer as clinicians however, is a glimpse into the lives of a cross section of young professional musicians, and how they navigate the post-college world while being committed to developing their artistry and plying their trade with integrity and perseverance.
