Phosphor: II

Read "II" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Phosphor, whose self-titled album came out in 2001, waited nearly five years to record its follow-up with Phosphor II. With editing, mixing and manufacturing, it has taken nearly eight years for the session to reach the marketplace.

With all that time that has passed, it is interesting to hear that the original super group, minus Alessandro Bosetti, can easily pick up right where it left off. These Berlin-based musicians practice the microtonal art of minimalist improvisation, yet their sound constructions ...

Phosphor: Phosphor

Read "Phosphor" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

This outing features a consortium of Berlin, Germany-based musicians who tend to explore the outer limits of abstraction via live electronics, acoustic instruments, and subversive dialogue. Less in your face than similar productions of this ilk, the instrumentalists create an air of suspense amid subdued moments and sparse frameworks. Andrea Neumann utilizes her stripped-down piano parts (strings, resonance board, metal frame & EFX) to counteract tubaist Robin Hayward, percussionist Burkhard Beins, and others for a set teeming with sparsely concocted ...

Beins/Bosetti/Dorner/Krebs/Neumann/Renkel/Schick: Phosphor

Read "Phosphor" reviewed by Mark Corroto

If I were clinically insane, I would articulate my beliefs in the profound significance of the post-minimal abstract sounds created by this creative collaboration. The mostly whispered interplay of these musicians spark thought and reflection from parts of the minds eye (or ear) that is beyond rational thought and common practice.

The folks at the French label Potlatch continue to deliver stellar improvisational music. Phosphar is a cooperative effort of musicians living in Berlin, plus Italian saxophonist Alessandro Bosetti. Axel ...

Phosphorescent:To Willie

Phosphorescent:To Willie

Source: JamBase

By: Dennis Cook

Amidst the pot smoke, cornball acting and lightweight high profile collaborations, what often gets lost about Willie Nelson is what a devastating songwriter he is. This fact didn't elude Phosphorescent (aka Matthew Houck), who's tunneled into the richest recesses of Willie's vast catalog to create a genuine tribute to the hard living American master.

The barroom doors swing wide on “Pick Up The Tempo" and then he splits your heart open on “Can I Sleep In Your ...

Phosphorescent Announce Tour, Special To Willie Performances, Share MP3

Matthew Houck - Phosphorescent Phosphorescent are hitting the road in support of To Willie, their February 3 release on Dead Oceans. To Willie finds Phosphorescent digging into the Willie Nelson catalog, covering not classics, but deep album cuts. The songs collected on To Willie seem cracked from Phosphorescent's proprietary mold with Matthew Houck's unmistakable voice leading the way. They feel lived in, they feel weathered and they feel just like Phosphorescent. ...
