Scott Martin

“ONLY TRUST YOUR HEART”, Scott Martin’s fifth CD; invites you to sit back, trust your heart and journey with him through the brilliant colors that reflect the vibrant and sensuous soul of Brazil. Brazilian music is full of passion, of sentiment, of joy. Wherever you go in Brazil there is always the music entrancing, enchanting, and enticing you to sail away. This is the essence that captivated Scott Martin and motivated him to bring his take on Brazilian classics and influenced his original compositions. Soulful Latin jazz comes alive on Menudo & Gritz as Scott Martin leads a fiery session that runs hot, hot, hot!

His lengthy tenure with Poncho Sanchez has resulted in a love for this music that brings together the memories of Eddie Harris, Ray Charles, Mongo Santamaria, and Cal Tjader in a whirlwind affair. Scott Martin’s name may be new to you, but I’ll bet his sound isn’t. For more than ten years, he has played saxophones and flute with the Grammy Award-winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band. (For a brief time, he and brothers Stan and Andy constituted Poncho’s entire brass section; both appear with him here.) In addition, Martin has played with many stars, including Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Ray Charles, James Moody, Arturo Sandoval, Chick Corea, Diane Reeves, and ...

Scott Martin's eleven years with Poncho Sanchez have proven fruitful. The saxophonist's debut as leader features a delectable Latin jazz concoction worthy of a veteran’s ear. In fact, conguero Sanchez sits in to hold court.

The Martin brothers (Scott, Andy & Stan) have all performed and recorded with Sanchez at different times. This time out, they’re all together and enjoying it. The album features hot guitar jams, wall-to-wall Latin percussion, horns that flow from the same well, ...

Scott Martin: Cafe Cubano

Read "Cafe Cubano" reviewed by Matt Merewitz

Scott Martin is no stranger to LA’s Latin jazz scene. An eleven-year veteran of the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, Martin’s chops are just as good on baritone, alto and soprano as on his main horn, the tenor. His flute is also very stylistically appropriate. His impeccable feel for the music shows his passion for Latin jazz, and his compositional style has been honed over his many years of tenure in Sanchez’ band. For a guy who isn’t Latino, he’s ...
