Shirazette Tinnin

Born and raised in North Carolina, drummer Shirazette Tinnin’s sound resonates with jazz, soul, and many other styles of music. An in demand drummer in New York City, she was recently on tour with Tia Fuller at the Umbria Jazz Festival, Molde Jazz Festival and the Turkish Ambassadors, as well as leading her own group, The Shirazette Experiment Core-Tet. Shirazette is also collaborating with numerous other artists, and is the resident drummer of the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet. She strives to keep the motion of jazz music progressive in all of her endeavors.

Besides performing, Shirazette is an active clinician, teacher, health coach and author, writing articles for Modern Drummer and Tom Tom Magazine. Shirazette is currently working on the release of her debut album as a bandleader, and is signed with the new record label Hot Tone Music. It is to be released in 2012.

The SHIRAZETTE EXPERIMENT CORE-TET is an eclectic acoustic/electric sound of jazz compiled of the leader's multitude of experiences from playing with various artist in various genres. Shirazette's sound can be defined as jazzy, world, swinging, percussive, high, energizing, emotional, and life driven. All the compositions are written by Shirazette and come alive off the page because of the amazing caliber of musicianship exuded by her and her band. Comprised of drum set and cajon, saxophone, piano, bass, and sometimes cello, Tinnin's music is a laboratory of sound that will engage you and keep you attuned. Her soon to be released album called "Before us There was Them: Live and Learn Volume 1" is the sound of instrumentalists and a few vocals that reflect her emotions through music. It also reflects her experiences with others and through those there were before her. It is a story telling guideline of thick and thin, big breaks and big mistakes, do agains and do overs from a musical point of view.
