Eddy Goltz

Eddy Goltz (guitar, piano, vocals, composer), born in Fargo, USA, has been performing since the 1960’s. On the music scene in Spain and Portugal for two decades and in major Shanghai live music venues since 2005, including the 2010 Shanghai Music Festival, his versatile combo Eddy Goltz Jazz Navigators features multitalented and experienced World-Jazz musicians and an outstanding vocal and instrumental repertoire offering intimate listening, exciting improvisation and grooving dance music ranging from Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong to Swing or Tango, Salsa to Samba, B.B. King’s Blues to Ray Charles’ or Stevie Wonder’s Soul and R & B, from Tropical to Bossa Nova, modern Brazilian or Afro-Latin Jazz, to Chinese songs or uncommon world-music repertoires. Goltz speaks and performs in several languages (Portuguese, Spanish etc), and imparts a musical perspective celebrating diversity through exploration of many interwoven branches of jazz-based styles. Eddy Goltz’s Jazz Navigators have included noted musicians like Andre Dequech, Tahina Raz, Laurent Filipe, Mark Holen, Rao Kyao, Carlos Vieira, Wink Pettis, and Sean Higgins. Goltz studied in Oberlin USA with Wendell Logan, Thad Jones, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Roland Hanna, Leroy Jenkins, Betty Carter and Abe Laboriel. He also had classes with Barry Harris, Christopher Parkening, Jeff Van, Leo Brauwer and Ramnad Ragavan, also exploring Indian Music, Flamenco and Fado and earning a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Minnesota in 1982. He played solo and in big bands from Afro-Cuban or ethnic to operas or orchestral productions in the USA, Canada, Turkey, Morocco, Brazil, Indonesia, southern and East Africa, the Caribbean, Holland, Italy, Spain and also Portugal, his home for 20 years, also conducting the premiere of "100 Years of George Gershwin" and "Hommage to Louis Armstrong" at Lisbon EXPO, and performing with the Metropolitan, Gulbenkian and Portuguese Symphony Orchestras. Goltz also performed with David Murray, Ute lemper, Placido Domingo, Tito Paris, Jacinta, Mario Laginha, Maria João, Helio Delmiro, Dulce Pontes, Jose Cid, Angela Hagenbach, Sanford Moore, JD Steele, Bill Goodwin, the Havana Jazz Big Band and Zambomba. In China he has collaborated with Kiki Cerdor, Carol Chang, Theo Croker, Coco Zhao, Huang JianYi, Boyana Walsh, Peng Fei, Tinho Pereira, Willow Neilson, Buddha, Alice Day, Donald Jackson, Kathy Lamar, Andy Hunter, Bill Heid, Alec Haavek, Gilbert Kuppusami, Playerz Gotta Play, Rolf Becker, the late Ernesta Dunbar and Sugar Mama and many others. He has taught music at the Luso-German School, Madrid’s Taller de Musicos, Angra Conservatory and JZ School in Shanghai.
