Sherman grew up in New Jersey, starting on the drum set at age 5 and playing professionally by age 13. He has performed on four continents at renowned venues such as the Kennedy Center, Village Vanguard, Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), Palau De La Música (Barcelona), Tchaikovsky Hall (Moscow), and numerous international jazz festivals including Newport, Detroit, Caramoor, Vail, St. Lucia, Mexico City, Jerusalem, and Dnieper (Ukraine).

The big band recently recorded Duke Ellington’s Queen’s Suite for Queen Elizabeth II, in celebration of her Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Sherman has recorded 10+ albums as a sideman, a highlight of which is Masters Legacy Vol 2 with childhood collaborator, Emmet Cohen, and Ron Carter. Critics cited Sherman as “a beacon of taste”, “who, though in his mid-20's, plays here like an old master” (All About Jazz). In 2021, he released his debut quintet album as a leader, titled Sidewalkin’.

A passionate educator, Sherman teaches privately and has presented clinics in Canada, China, Doha, Israel, and throughout the US. He is music director of Jazz for Jennings, an annual benefit created by drum legend Max Roach and the late ABC world news journalist, Peter Jennings. Sherman proudly endorses Paiste Cymbals, Vic Firth Drum Sticks, and Prologix Drum Pads.

Naama Gheber: If I Knew Then

Read "If I Knew Then" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

New York City-based vocalist Naama Gheber released her debut recording, Dearly Beloved (Cellar Music) in 2020, just before the global COVID-19 pandemic. With live entertainment brought to a halt, Gheber found herself with time on her hands and no way to promote her considerable talent in live performance. Israeli by birth, Gheber was an enfant terrible who ascended quickly professionally. After being trained at the Center for Jazz Studies in Tel Aviv, Gheber was accepted into the jazz program at ...

Naama Gheber: The Very Thought of You

Read "The Very Thought of You" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

Naama Gheber closes her 2022 summer season of singles releases with Ray Noble's 1934 composition, “The Very Thought Of You." The song was first recorded by Ray Noble and His Orchestra with Al Bowlly on vocals for HMV in England in April, closely followed by Bing Crosby's performance that same year and enjoying many revivals since then. The spring and summer of 2022 saw Gheber releasing, “Old Mother Hubbard," “I'm A Fool To Want You," “You're Driving Me Crazy," and ...

Naama Gheber: Dream Dancing

Read "Dream Dancing" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

Vocalist Naama Gheber released her debut recording Dearly Beloved (Cellar Live, 2020) immediately before the pandemic. In spite of this interruption in the traditional marketing of music, the recording received much positive attention within the All About Jazz community and other outlets. Since the easing of restrictions, Gheber has turned things upside down by releasing as singles her entire upcoming EP If I Knew Then, slated for the street in November. Gheber has already released, “Old Mother Hubbard" ...

Evan Sherman: Not Just A Throwback

Read "Evan Sherman: Not Just A Throwback" reviewed by David A. Orthmann

It is too easy to simply consign Evan Sherman to the throng of young drummers in the thrall of bebop masters such as Max Roach, Art Blakey, and Philly Joe Jones. Throughout Sidewalkin', Sherman's self-produced recording from 2021, and a recent live performance at the Madison Community Arts Center in Madison, NJ, these influences are perceptible, but they're only a small portion of the story. At the age of 29, Sherman has already made huge strides in realizing an exciting, ...

Naama Gheber: Old Mother Hubbard

Read "Old Mother Hubbard" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

New York-based Israeli vocalist Naama Gheber released her debut Dearly Beloved (Cellar Live) two years ago this month, in April 2020, right at the front of the gaping maw, we came to know as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or COVID-19. In spite of this, Gheber's recording garnered favorable reviews at All About Jazz, as well as elsewhere. Dearly Beloved was an announcement of a supple and gifted talent emerging. With the Covid pandemic arguably behind us, ...

New Release "Angels" by Andy Scott, Featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Dezron Douglas And Evan Sherman

New Release "Angels" by Andy Scott, Featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Dezron Douglas And Evan Sherman

Source: Frank Moten

Andy Scott is a jazz singer… but that’s like saying Al Pacino is an “actor” and Julia Childs a “cook.” Scott comes from the tradition of the classic ballad/American Songbook style but he’s not “retro”—like the best singers he melds the best of the past with the immediacy of the Eternal Now, with an eye on the horizon. Born 1957 in jny: Cleveland, Ohio to Terry and Al Rosen—the latter a slugger for the Cleveland Indians—Andy Scott grew up in ...
