FRIDOLijN

An original and self taught singer and songwriter originally hailing from Amsterdam, Fridolijn grew up as daughter of two former hippies; her dad a psychotherapist, her mother a world renowned contemporary dancer. Little Fridolijn spent many an afternoon sleeping underneath the grand piano during her mother’s teaching at the Rotterdam Dance Academy. Behind the piano during those lessons was Henk Nichting, a modern classical pianist and composer, heavily influenced by the likes of Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Rachmaninov. It was Henk who gave Fridolijn her first piano books and lessons at the age of six. Her early love and passion for music would see her stuck behind the piano for hours, or locked in her bedroom writing songs.

in 2003 producer Jaap Eggermont heard some of Fridolijn’s writing demo’s and gave her the opportunity to record her first solo album. It gave Fridolijn the chance to develop her songwriting skills, work with international musicians and songwriters and spend hours on end in his (in)famous Soundpush studio.

in 2008 she founded her first professional music company together with producer & DJ Mark Berman: Jazzberry. Their loves for combining both electronic and live music brought the two together. They performed endlessly on their own clubnights (The Jazzberry Sessions) as well as festivals, events, and clubnights, teaming up with DJ’s like Jazzanova, and Kraak & Smaak, and many different musicians. The company ultimately resulted in Jazzberry Records. A label on which the two released Finn Silver.

2011 saw the release of Crossing the Rubicon, the highly acclaimed debut album of Finn Silver. After working on Finn Silver’s debut album for two years, working with international top musicians like London based drummer Richard Spaven (Jose James / Flying Lotus), saxophonist Ben van Gelder, Brazilectro-pioneer Stefan Schmid (Zuco103) and bass player Ernst Glerum (Boy Edgar prize ’09). The album was recorded at the Jazzanova studio’s in Berlin. The result is a refined and impressive debut that enfolds the band’s passions for jazz, singer/songwriter and electronic music into songs . As JAZZANOVA likes to put it: “Beautiful jazz- pop songs that are light on the ear, but full of fascinating details’’. ‘Crossing the Rubicon’ has been collecting one raving review after another, occupied the #1 position of the Dutch jazzcharts for more than three weeks, and gave Finn Silver the title ‘Breakthrough Jazz Artist of the Year 2011’ on Itunes Holland.

Finn Silver’s first single Roadtrip sent the band on the trip of their lives, getting airplay and appearances on national radio & tv and being on #1 position of the jazzcharts for three weeks. In June 2011 Roadtrip was named Single of the Week on Itunes Japan, causing a staggering 60.000 downloads and a # 2 position in the Japanese jazz charts. In November 2011 the Japanese edition of Crossing the Rubicon was released, followed by a successful tour along the renowned Billboard Live clubs in both Tokyo and Osaka in January 2012. The Japanese success has opened the gates to the rest of the world, with the album being released in more than 12 countries including China, Korea, Thailand and Poland.
