Galen Fous Collective - Mythic Acoustic Jazz Fusion - Enlivened Ambiance for Contemporary Events & Venues
Galen Fous is a Portland based, innovative, acoustic guitar stylist, composer and an accomplished singer/songwriter. He plays solo, or as duo or trio, depending on the venue. His music is highly original and combines elements of jazz, latin, brazilian, celtic, rock, classical, contemporary folk and more into a modern fusion of traditional genres. The songs he and his group weave are rich in mythos and emotion lyrically and musically. Galen's compositions are held within unique chordings, diverse rhythms, and am amazing finger-style technique developed over the last 30 years.
I and/or my group are interested in being considered for dates at your venue. I can perform solo or with superb bass player, Ryan Babichuk that can join in on upright or fretless bass, and Mitch Imori, a conservatory trained horn/woodwind player. If right for the venue, a master percussionist/drummer can be added as well.
[MYTHIC ACOUSTIC JAZZ FUSION] The Portland finger-style guitarist Galen
Fous has long followed the John Fahey folk-blues tradition, with touches of
jazz and other traditional influences underpinning his rich vocals, which have
wandered near late-career Van Morrison-style soulful concerns. Now, along
with Fous’ regular upright bassist Ryan Babichuk, his new album, Sacred
Ground, adds another veteran Portland musician, Mitch Iimori, whose oboe,
English horn, soprano sax, flute and clarinet contributions to Fous’
instrumentals echo Paul McCandless’ reeds in the great jazz fusion band
Oregon, giving Fous a whole new potential audience for his late-career
renaissance. BRETT CAMPBELL. Willamette Week 2014

[QUIET GUITAR STORM] "Galen Fous, master guitarist, is one of those
musicians who quietly flies below the radar in PDX... but listen closely to what
Fous plays as a soloist or with his quartet and you'll hear a vast network of
influences coming to bear through his unique finger-picked style. There's a
touch of Pat Metheny's fusion lyricism, some Fahey-style folk, and even a bit
of post-jazzish tonality reminiscent of artists like the Durutti Column and
early Everything but the Girl."- Robert Ham, Willamette Week (Jun 07, 2012)
