GGRIL

The GGRIL is a miracle : a monster 14 pieces improv band out from a remote little town of eastern Quebec....3 electric guitars, basses, percussions and classical trained strings... gathered to explore improvisations games and non-linear strategy with an unique sound

The GGRIL has been active since 2007, and in addition to the compositions of its members worked through workshop with musicians of the caliber of Jean Derome, René Lussier, Evan Parker and Danielle P. Roger.

The GGRIL is releasing COMBINES a LP showcasing the band's sound and Éric Normand's compositions in a well produced and good looking album. Find it and pre-order on bandcamp !...

”I heard the GGRIL Orchestra during a short and pleasant stay at Rimouski (Canada) after finishing a long USA tour with ICP Orchestra. All these young musicians had big ‘listening’ ears, knew how to work in a large ensemble, knew to wait and most important knew how to keep the music open and light. All this was done with a lot of fun, concentration and dedication.” —Ab Baars

The result is consistently engaging music that’s as surprising as it is thoughtfully determined.” By Stuart Broomer in Musicworks #115 (Canada), March 1, 2013

“Vivaces is a blueprint of sorts, a how-to for groups exploring large group improvisations. As a recording it is fascinating listening, and the LeGGRIL project is an excellent model for the development of a regional avant garde.” By John Colburn, FREE JAZZ MAG, usa, 2013

“...a gathering and dispersion of sounds, realized by players who know when not to play and how to coax fascinating details from their instruments (..)fine large ensemble stuff, well worth exploring for the entire band and not just their esteemed guest” Jason Bivins, Signal to Noise, usa, 2013

Philippe Renaud, Improjazz, France, 2013
