Miranda Russell

A powerful and moving vocalist, Miranda Russell's performance centers on nuanced treatments of a wide range of favorites from Joni Mitchell to Cole Porter; she “will knock your socks off – should you be wearing any this close to the beach.” (Boston Phoenix). Her interpretation and delivery of popular songs by such luminaries as Paul Simon, Gillian Welch, and Richard Thompson have become crowd-favorites in her pop repertoire. Joined by world class backing musicians, Miranda has equally delighted critics and audiences with American Songbook standards including: Summertime, Embraceable You, and Every Time We Say Goodbye. She is a sure-bet performer with a stunning voice.

Miranda's early years of theater training taught her to find and deliver the story within the song. She is considered by many to be a moving vocalist and nuance performer, and her concerts center on interpretations of the music of the great songwriters of our day. She commits fully to every song and her lively stage vibe continue to make her a much sought- after performer.

Miranda has been seen acting and singing on stages from Cambridge to Brussels. Her early favorite shows include: soloist and chorus dancer in Boston's Christmas Revels with Jean Ritchie (at Sanders Theater) , The Serpent, at Emerson Stage; David Mamet's The Frog Prince, at Theatre in the Open and Legend of the Christmas Rose by Wendy Lement, at the Firehouse Center, both in Newburyport, MA.

Her college years took her on many adventures. She was an acting major at Emerson College in Boston under Kristin Linklater (of Freeing the Natural Voice) and later toured Europe as an actor/singer/dancer with a small hardworking theater company. She studied directing at Harvard University (Extension School) with David Wheeler. She was a music therapy and voice performance double major at Loyola University New Orleans College of Music where she trained in classical voice.

Her return to the New England area was marked by three consecutive seasons at Gloucester Stage Company, home theater to internationally celebrated playwright Israel Horovitz. At GSC she delighted audiences in Still Crazy: A Tribute to the Music of Paul Simon, Tapestry: A Celebration of the Music of Carole King, and Fascinating Rhythm, George and Ira Gershwin. Miranda also impressed audiences and critics in her leading roles at New Hampshire's Seacoast Repertory Theater in Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar, and My Fair Lady.

Today's live shows all steal a little from every facet of the living and learning that a performer undergoes during the process of becoming just that: a performer.
