Born: August 30, 1951    Primary Instrument: Guitar

”Rare and pure of heart” best describes the music of this Texas-based smooth jazz guitarist. Wood is not by any means a newcomer to the music scene. Born in San Antonio but raised in Bulverde, Texas, he has played with a few of country's finest musicians like Johnny Gimble and also played in the house band at Gilley's for three and a half years.

Charlie first started playing banjo taught to him by his father at the age of seven. However, at the age of nine Charlie developed an interest in guitar and when he was eleven he began to take lessons from a jazz guitarist, Dow Daggett. At fourteen he began playing professionally various types of music from Rock N Roll, R&B, Blues to Country. Getting his feet wet in all genres of music Charlie found that his true love is Jazz. When contemporary jazz hit the music scene Charlie knew he had found his niche.

Since releasing his first contemporary jazz CD, In The Thick of the Woods (which was considered for a grammy nomination in 1996) Charlie has opened for such acts as Chuck Loeb, Fattburger, George Howard, Gerald Albright, Walter Beasley, Everett Harp and Brian Culbertson.

Charlie is an accomplished guitarist and his persistence and determination have enabled him to receive endorsements from Epiphone Guitars, J. Daddario & Co and Dunlop Picks.

His newest project, Rhythms of the Eclipse, has guest artist, Kim Stone, bassist for The Rippingtons. The new CD is phenomenal and captures Charlie's true sound, “sound that fuses smooth jazz, straight-up jazz, Latin, funk and ballads”. He plays his music with “soul, class and imagination” (Jim Beal, Night Lights, Express-News), which reveals his inner creativity. As Charlie believes in giving back to the community, he teaches children through his music store, Third Stream Music. In addition, one of the tunes on the new CD, Better Days, is dedicated to caregivers all over the world, survivors of 9-11 and survivors of domestic violence.

Charlie is a dedicated and talented man who believes God has blessed him and allowed him to be able to do his music by performing and teaching. He is currently a member of BMI, NARAS, and IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators).

With this in mind, it is evident Charlie's music comes from his heart and for certain, whether you hear Charlie live or on CD, he will captivate yours.
