Dan DeChellis

Dan DeChellis’s music consists of melody, emotion, energy and spontaneous adventure. Born on classic rock, schooled in classical music, matured on jazz, aged with ambient music, he is a fan of all music and styles. He has released over 8 CD’s of purely improvised music on his own label, Sachimay Records. Dan is also a member of the Hassay / DeChellis / Nakatani Trio with whom he has released two CD’s on the German Label, Konnex Records. He is a member of two rock bands, Grey Sky Turn and Four the Day and a professor of music at Moravian College where he directs the Improvised Music Ensemble (MIME). Dan’s music draws from his love of lush harmony and nostalgic melodies. He is an improviser at heart and loves to allow room in his pieces for the ensemble to explore and create spontaneously. He is a fan of Talk Talk, Brian Eno and Harold Budd which opened his ears to long tones and big spaces. His trio is a unique ensemble from the standpoint that they perform nearly entirely original music when they perform. Through there instrumentation, they are considered jazz, which is clearly present in their music, yet there is also so much more.
