Jay Flippin

Born in a small town in VA in 1946. Studied piano from age 7. Played keyboards and bass in gospel, rock, soul, country, and folk groups beginning at age 10. Began playing jazz in college. BM and MM in piano performance. ABD in Theory. Taught applied piano, theory, jazz studies, composition, arranging, and music history at Morehead State University, Morehead, KY, for 33 years. Retired in 2000. Currently teaching piano and jazz studies part time at Marshall University, Huntington, WV. Keyboardist/arranger/pops conductor for Lexington (KY) Philharmonic since 1973. Accompanist/ arranger for Lexington Singers since 1976. Organist/minister of music First Baptist Church, Morehead, KY since 1974. Professional accompanist, arranger, composer, producer. Have written more than 1500 arrangements for all media. Have written and produced more than 350 jingles, 50 video and/or film scores, 300 CD or album projects, commissioned works in all media, and cues for television series. Won a regional EMMY and have been nominated for a national EMMY. Have released 4 jazz CDs in last 4 years. Have a trio CD in the works for spring 2004. Currently have a working duo (with sax player Gordon Towell), trio, quartet, and a B3 quartet.
