Terese Genecco

New York City-based jazz & big band vocalist, Terese Genecco, has hit both coasts by storm. She began with a bang as San Francisco's “Entertainer of the Year,” and, in New York City, has received a coveted Back Stage Bistro Award, an OUTMusic Award, 2 MAC Awards, and for two years in a row has been named to TIME OUT NEW YORK Magazine's TOP TEN BEST lists.

Terese Genecco & Her Little Big Band currently headline in New York City in Broadway's Longest Running Nightclub Act, appearing monthly, at The Iridium Jazz Club in Times Square. The Little Big Band members include Barry Levitt on piano, Tom Hubbard on bass, Joe Abba on drums (with a special guest appearance by Michael Berkowitz,) Mayra Casales on Latin Percussion, Sean Harkness on guitar, Cliff Lyons on tenor sax, Kenny Lavender on trumpet (with a special guest appearance by Grammy winner, Lew Soloff,) and Mark Miller on trombone.

When performing at The Rrazz Room in the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, or at The M Bar or Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood, Genecco is accompanied by Jack “Mr Bongo” Costanzo whose rhythm section (Mikey Holguin on drums and Rene Camacho on bass) is front and center with Genecco, as a featured member of her 8-piece *little big band,* just as he was with Nat “King” Cole and Frances Faye over 50 years ago.

Genecco is originally from Upstate New York, where she began performing at the age of five. She graduated from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts with a BFA in Music Theater and has appeared in various stage productions, concerts, and solo shows. She studied voice, piano, percussion, guitar, dance, composition, arrangement, choreography, and acting throughout her life and career at the Hochstein/Eastman School of Music, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Carnegie-Mellon and Penn State Universities, and with Daniel Marek of the NY Metropolitan Opera.

Genecco has performed in major venues around the San Francisco Bay Area including The Great American Music Hall, The Rrazz Room in the Hotel Nikko, Yoshi's Oakland, The Fillmore Jazz Festival, Jazz At Pearl's, The Plush Room and more. In New York City, before her open-ended engagement at The Iridium, Terese was a repeat headliner at The Metropolitan Room, with multiple engagements at Rose Hall in Jazz @ Lincoln Center.

Genecco's debut CD, “DRUNK WITH LOVE: A TRIBUTE TO FRANCES FAYE!” was released on April 25, 2007 at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Center in NYC. It was recorded Live at The Metropolitan Room in NYC, October 13-16, 2006, and it features Genecco and her stellar cast of 8 of the finest jazz musicians on both coasts.

“How refreshing this work is, and how studiously the singer did her homework. The style and substance are recycled with relish. Arrangements and phrasing have been studiously recreated, but sound fresh and natural rather than warmed over or timidly, tepidly copied...no one-trick pony, just a rollicking reincarnation of a rambunctious, rhythmic rebel!” ~CD REVIEW, SOUND ADVICE COLUMN: www.TALKINBROADWAY.COM
