Henry Hey

Originally a native of Iowa, Henry Hey grew up in a musically fertile environment that included classical piano from a young age. At some point along the way Henry also began learning trumpet. This dual musical experience led him to be involved not only in the study of piano music but to be exposed to a vast palate of music. His trumpet studies led him to win concerto competitions and to perform in orchestras at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Later Henry began to discover jazz, and to play it on both the trumpet and piano. Following his studies at the University of North Texas Henry moved to New York where he has evolved into a highly sought after freelance pianist and keyboard player and has become associated with a number of musicians among the jazz elite. Henry has toured extensively in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, The U.K., The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Spain, France, Japan, Thailand, Brazil, and Australia. His touring and recording credits include work with trumpeter Till Broenner (Verve), saxophonist Seamus Blake (Fresh Sound), vibraphonist Joe Locke (Sirocco), saxophonist Bill Evans (ESC), Saxophonist Tim Garland, Drummer Bill Bruford, trumpeter Shunzo Ono (Min-on), bassist Victor Bailey (ESC), Drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts (Columbia), trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, Trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, Singer Monday Michiru, as well as many others. Henry is also the pianist with Rod Stewart and has toured and recorded extensively with him in the last few years along with many international TV appearances. Aside from lending his sound as a sideman, Henry is also the composer and leader of his own ensembles. He recently created a critically acclaimed piano trio recording ‘Watershed’ under his own name for Sirocco (UK) records. He also co-leads ‘Rudder’ which features saxophonist Chris Cheek (Paul Motion) bassist Tim Lefebvre (Uri Caine) and drummer Keith Carlock (Wayne Krantz, Sting and Steely Dan)
