The MOREIRA PROJECT is lead by top Mozambican saxophonist Moreira Chonguica who now lives in and plays from Cape Town.
This awesome musician graduated from UCT in 2000 with an honours degree in Musicology and has performed on the albums of some of South Africa's top artists. He has played many of the major jazz festivals in the world with some of the world's top entertainers. (North Sea Jazz Festival, Netherlands; International African Music Festival, Germany; New Orleans Jazz Festival; African Summer Jazz Festival, Zimbabwe; Victoria Jazz Festival, Spain; Joy of Jazz, South Africa; Jazzathon, Cape Town; North Sea Jazz Festival, Cape Town amongst others.)
He released his debut album in November 2005 to much excitement. His second album Vol 2 Citizen of the World was released in 2008
Moreira plays with his own band The Moreira Project made up of Cape Town's top jazz musicians. The very nature of The Moreira Project is that the musicians vary depending on the nature of the function.
He plays regularly with a number of Cape Town DJ's as well as with his own electronic duo called M-Connexxion with Mark Fransman.
This funky, hip and happening musician is full of energy and passion and it shows when he blows that sax whatever the occasion, whatever the event.
