Jonathan Kreisberg

With a busy touring schedule and rave reviews from the press and peers, Jonathan is steadily becoming one of the most exciting new faces on the international Jazz scene. He has studied a wide range of music and performed in many eclectic situations. His compositions have been performed by his dynamic group on five continents.

As a member of U.M.'s concert jazz band he played with Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker and Red Rodney. He performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas. He has performed as a sideman in the groups of Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke, Lee Konitz, Ari Hoenig, Don Friedman, Stefano DiBattista, Joel Frahm, Greg Tardy, Donald Edwards, Jane Monheit, and Yosvany Terry, as well as leading his own groups including such notables as Larry Grenadier, Bill stewart and Scott Wendholt. He has released 5 critically acclaimed CDs on the Criss Cross and Mel Bay Labels. “SOUTH OF EVERYWHERE” was at the top of the Jazz radio charts for several weeks in 2008. He has also recorded on several critically acclaimed discs such as Joe Locke’s “Sticks and Strings”, Dr. Lonnie Smith’s “Spiral”, and Ari Hoenig’s “Berts Playground”.

The release of “SHADOWLESS” (2011) marks the rebirth of NEW FOR NOW MUSIC, a label Kreisberg created in 2002 for the release of TRIOING. It features Jonathan's touring band, members Will Vinson on Saxophone, Henry Hey on piano, Matt Penman on bass, and Mark Ferber on drums in several different combinations. The band’s respect for the tradition is deep, but the compositions stretch the possibilities of form and the sounds challenge the possibilities of the “acoustic” jazz group resulting in a rythmically deep and lyrically compelling journey.

“Jonathan Kreisberg is a great musician whose playing and writing always tell a story. His formidable technique and intellect never get in the way, but only serve the agenda of the heart.” —Joe Locke
