Brian Drye plays trombone and lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Mechelle. Originally from Rhode Island, he grew up with a musician father (Howard Drye) exposing him to classical and improvised music and studied at the University of Miami in Florida. He has performed with many famous pop stars and big bands including The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Four Tops, Dianne Schuur and Paul Anka. He is a regular member of Slavic Soul Party a Balkan Brass Band based in NYC and The Four Bags a improvising chamber group. He has recorded for NCM East Records with several NYC based groups including SLOG, DDYGG, and The Morpholinos. Brian has toured Japan, Eastern Europe, Turkey and throughout the US and keeps a busy performance schedule in NYC playing with original music groups, klezmer bands, rock bands and improvisation ensembles. Brian is currently the director of Jazz Studies at the JCC Thurnauer School of Music in Tenafly, NJ and is a partner in the Creative Music Workshop, a new improvised music program for students based in NYC.
