Shahin Alavi was born in 16th Feb.1961 in Iran.
He began his studying the guitar with Mr.shahrokh Partovi at the age of 17 in Tehran ,and continued playing it under the guidance of Bagher Moazen . His perseverance in playing this instrument has made him master it thoroughly . He started teaching the Flamenco guitar in Bahman Art Center in 1991 and two years later held some concerts and devoted himself entirely to music .In 1995, because of intending to compose his own music, he was so much interested in playing another kind of musical instrument and so he initiated his studies of the Oud under the guidance of Mr. Rajabzadeh, Mohamad Firouzi and Mojtaba Mirzadeh.
He was able to play the Oud easily, in regards to his guitar playing experience and consequently composed and performed several Oud concerts around Iran . In 2003 he started his work in the field of World music( with Iranian roots) with EA ensemble (Oud, Guitar, Violin, Percussion) and continued with another ensemble( Oud, Piano, Flute-Recorder) and made his first Album under the name Sormeh.
Being prosperous in teaching music , he has been successful in theatrical music composition as well . He has also received some Iranian music lessons from Mr. Masoud Shenas .

Yesterday in a press meeting which was held by a group of musicians belong to Niavaran Society of musicians, List of programs and activities regarding to second six months of the year 2003 of above society were presented. In this meeting, referring to a question concerning the reasons for naming integrative concert for the next performance Shahin Alavi as the chief of concert players remarked that I should not like to put this name on my work necessarily but in case this question refers to group `s form, I should like to say you can perform integrative music just by one musical instrument. In fact this subject will occur in your phrasing. We might play with a kind of guitar which is neither anyway. This depends on the ambiance you are building with your instrument. Referring this subject that Iranian music has these structure, ha added in this concert I play solo with Oud which we can not counted it merely Iranian or traditional or European. He referred also to guitar, Violin and percussion musical instrument which will accompany him in this concert. Referring to this question Does integrative music as a music with new attitude will not harm to original music or culture? He answered perhaps we might say that this type of music (Integrative music) is a new attitude to music which is trying to present a new definition from culture which is trying to present a new definition from culture which is specifically for the use of certain countries rather for public to be understandable. When you are working on Iranian music this arrangement may be shown to another form through corners and the way you are looking at it. But when you open it and combine it with other musical instrument, you must talk so that everyone understands you and in the meantime does not damage to original work. Some one like Mostafazadeh will play a piece with piano in which Turkish music is mixed with Jazz music which Turkish music has not been ruined and he also reached to his goal. Referring to this subject that this problem depends on player himself, he added that in IN music phrases structure as well as the work you are doing by now, there are many things to be clarified and be judged over there. Referring to this question whether a new work in integrative music area has been done in concert in the fog he said that I performed this concert twice and I think that we should ask people and audience whether this is a new work or not? But we believe we have done …. In continuation, he referred to this question Do you believe that all the people will be satisfied? He said that No work can claim that it was an interesting work for the all. When I intended to play Oud 8 years ago, most of people did not know this style and they told me that you have made mistake When I listened Oud being played by Tunisian player Anouar Brahem, I was so much interested in play this kind of musical instrument and I imitated his style and played his tunes by listening to them. This is a kind of music belong to our era and perhaps this is the reason why cultures become closer to each other than old days. There is a movement started off in Iran. Referring to this question that are their music jazz or not, he pointed out that at the time I was heard Jazz music is a music for our era, I was to believe that Jazz music is similar to Iranian music fro certain reasons because playing improvisation for both kind of music is part and parcel. Jazz has different period such as Bibab, bab, cool, and,…, which nowadays have been rooted in the world's various cultures of music. It depends on musician's style of work so that it can not damage his original music because this our wealth and should be preserved.
Shargh Daily/ 3 Dec- 2003 page 10 The first autumn concert of Niavaran`s society of musicians under the name of In The Fog will be held by Shahin Alavi`s group in Niavaran palace(Green Hall) from 4 to 6 December. In this concert Shahin Alavi ( Player of Oud), Babak Amir Mobasher( player of Guitar), Ida Nosrat ( player of Violin ) and Ali Rahimi(player of Percussion) are performing works from Shahin Alavi as group's chief. This group have already held two concerts under the name of group EA in Tehran in 2002 which were welcomed by music interested people. However, music center was opposed that this group were under the name of EA therefore, the group changed its name to Shahin Alavi`s Group.

Walking on the cloud Creating music ensemble different from active group's attitudes styles during several past decades are as a result of our time philosophy and thinking which will be put into practical tests in order that some forms of new music can be observed through experience module and mixing sounds of music. Shahin Alavi`s group is one of the Iranian groups which has taken the first steps on this path at present time. This group under the name of EA and this year once again In the fog concert under the name of Shahin Alavi`s Group were on the scene at Niavaran palace new established hall(Green Hall). The important point is group's kind of performance which we can verify it through various point of views. At the beginning and for the first step we are having a glance at shahin Alavi`s style. It seems that Shahin alavi in his own way of work is looking for new methods based on Jazz structures so as through this way he might create a kind of passable bridge between Jazz music and Iran music but in respect to his performance and his group we might say that Shahin Alavi`s music has attracted more to Romance narrations in music rather than Jazz structures. Of course, we might look at another approach in changes occurred to Jazz performance and by doing so classify Shahin Alavi`s performance into this level of changes, but, perhaps the best name for naming this style is Romance music title. Romance music is kind of style in which composer realizing romantic music structures and singing love poems will refer to his own matter in hand narration in the kind of music language module. In the form of music, piece title and wresting engagements for reaching to a concept from subject are the best given approach in order to reach this type of style. Considering the fact that Romance term is another narration to an event witch associate its meaning, This style of music (Romance music) is included such kind of tendencies. To select a name for pieces of a collection is a new event in relationship between music and addressee which belongs to 20th century and rooted in public music structures. Owing to this point that Romance music is kind of non vocal music, therefore, in order to express what is the idea of a composer, he must refer to a wresting language so that through this method he may have a communication between himself and addressee. Shahin Alavi`s group are enjoying from the same channel in order to convey their concepts to audience. His group's performance were along with titles such as Blue, walking on the cloud, Sunshine, Now, Circles, Evolution, Kite, In the Fog, and arranging Piece Arizona Dream( by Goren Borgowich ). Shahin Alavi`s language is a kind of meditation language so that it associates the meaning of the name of mentioned pieces. The above mentioned language is also very obvious in a soloist's work. Pieces such as Sunshine and Circles are pieces in which Alavi is playing Oud and has been successful to associate his subjective behavior to those title he selected all by himself. This kind of work in fact have formed performance entire air and pieces like Evolution, Kite, and In The Fog were not separated from this kind of musical form. But another point concerning this concert which we might mention in which to a certain extent Shahin Alavi was succeeded in doing it. By mixing Iranian music tune and entering it into other parts of the world `s musical forms, he endeavor ed to acquire an international language. A language by which he may attract his audience wherever he might be in the world and made him thing by certain fluency which existed in pieces. However, this mode of encounter with musical work can be a factor which may placed between serious music and pop music border. Nowadays in the world of ours, Romance Music in its different forms that is Jazz, Rock, Pop and Classic for various reasons have found more fans than old days, and it's kind of music which was also called soothing music. We might say that Shahin Alavi`s performance was the first experience of Romance music in Iran without tending to commonplace music and it can be counted as an appropriate substitute for a lot of commonplace and unknown music of recent days. Finally, we might say that this group's continuance requires for producing more pieces and Shahin Alavi must be aware of this problem that making new pieces will prove to public a sense of searching and being alive for his group.

His Flamenco guitar teacher was Shahrokh Partovi and the Classic one was Bagher Moazen. Till now Alavi has held some formal and informal concerts that the last one was at the Harekat Hall in this year. Shahin Alavi is a brilliant Guitar master who has played an important role at introducing Flamenco Guitar to Iranian musical society. He has devoted himself to the music and has spent majority of his time for teaching and so introducing brilliant student to the music world of Iran. as well as, he has some experiences of teaching at the non governmental music classes of farhangsara, radio and television. Besides, He has Started playing Oud from 4 years ago and played it as perfect as Guitar.
The Song of the Month Magazine/ music and cinema's special monthly/Feb. 2004/page 46 Shahin Alavi And a Non- Vocal album Remember the Walking on the Cloud Shahin Alavi, the brilliant Oud and Guitar player, with such musical performer as Kaveh vares(Piano) and Farhoud Biglarbeigi( Flute Recorder) are preparing a non vocal album in the form of Integrative(eastern- western) music which is now under the name of Walking on The Cloud but this name may be changed after. It would be supposed that a percussionist join to this group . Shahin alavi was born in 1961.He began his studies of the Guitar at the age of 17, under the guidance of Shahrokh Partovi and now he is one of the famous Flamenco Guitar player in Iran. Before now, he has held several ensemble and solo concerts around Iran. This album is his first album which he decided to release to the market. It is notably that Alavi has started Oud playing from 10 years ago and because of his musical talent and also experiences of playing Guitar, he could introduced himself well. Recent album consists in 9 or 10 tracks which have different and innovative musical. ambience and rhythms and it will be probably welcomed by audiences. Walking on the Cloud is recording at Marly Studio and it would be supposed to be released to the market about 2 or 3 month later.

The group believe that in Sormeh Collection, efforts were to make an integrative inside music(Melody and Harmonic words) so that a kind of strong bond might produced. As a result, by using Oud( old string instrument related to middle- east), Flute- Recorder(wind instrument related to period of barouk in Europe) and Piano( new western musical instrument), we might be able to create special sound coloration along with Iranian identity. In the first part of this concert such pieces as Trance, Psyche, Staircase, End(By Kave Vares) and Sormeh, Memory( by Shahin Alavi) will be performed . In the second part, Pieces of Autumn warmth, Walking on the cloud and Shadow(Alavi`s works), and Raining Blood composed by kaveh Vares will be performed too.
