Originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, double bassist Patrick Reid made the move to Montreal in the fall of 2001 after being accepted into the renowned jazz performance program at McGill University. Over the course of his degree Pat studied with musicians such as Remi Bolduc, Kelsley Grant and Joe Sullivan before graduating with high distinction in 2005. In 2004, he was selected to attend the Banff Centre’s International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music where he had the opportunity to work alongside some of the world’s finest jazz artists including Dave Douglas, Mark Feldman, Bill Frisell, Clarence Penn and Mark Turner. Also in 2004, based on a recording of his own compositions, Pat and his quartet Mobile Preid were selected by the International Association of Jazz Educators as the first Canadian student band to perform at the North Sea International Jazz Festival in Den Hague, Netherlands. Now residing permanently in Montreal, he has been afforded the opportunity to collaborate with many of Canada’s top jazz artists such as Duane Andrews, Kevin Dean, Chet Doxas, Christine Jensen, Joel Miller, Andy Milne, Dave Restivo, and Vanessa Rodrigues. In 2007, Pat will be touring Canada with his trio Fieldtrip following the release of their debut album of original works.
