Stephen Gauci

Stephen Gauci is a tenor saxophonist based in Brooklyn, NY. He is among the new vanguard of improvisors emerging in New York City. Some of the people he's performed with include William Parker, George Garzone, Sabir Mateen, Tony Malaby, James Emory, Ben Allison, Marc Helias, Matt Maneri, Roy Campbell Jr., Daniel Carter, Steve Swell, Mike Bisio, Jay Rosen, Lou Grassi, Whit Dickey, and Graham Haynes. In the past two years Steve has released eight records as a leader, as well as appearing as a prominant side man on three “Mike Bisio Quartet” releases. Gauci has performed at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, High Seirra Festival in Bear County, California, the Bumbershoot Festival, Seattle WA, the Folk Life Festival, Seattle WA, and the Earshot Jazz Festival, Seatlle WA.

Gauci has studied extensively with internationally acclaimed saxophonists Joe Lovano and George Garzone, as well as studies with Frank Wess (Count Basie Orchestra), Ralph Lalama (Village Vanguard Orchestra, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra), Dick Oats (Village Vanguard Orchestra), Gary Smulyan (Village Vanguard Orchestra). He has a Masters of Music degree from New York University. He has been an associated artist at Drew University of New Jersey, and a woodwind instructor at the Jazz Institue of New Jersey. He currently maintains a roster of over 20 students of all ages and levels.

Lessons cover all aspects of musicianship including tone production, technique, reading, and improvisation. Beginners through advanced, children and adults welcome -references are available on request. Lessons are at my conveniently located downtown studio, or in your manhattan home. My rates are $50/hr or $40 for a 45 minute lesson. I offer a $10 discounted rate for students (with a valid student ID). Lessons cancelled less than 24 hrs in advance to be paid in full.
