Nestor Zurita

Born in New York and raised in Quito, NZ started to play the saxophone at age 15, and at 17 was part of the “University of Montana” Big Band. Studied at “Miami Dade College”, “Manhattan School of Music” and “The New School Jazz”. His teachers include Bobby Watson and Steve Slagel. Played with Steve Lacy, Jovinho Santos Neto, Omar Sosa, Dado Moroni, Claudio Capurro, Andrea Pozza, Andrea Zanzottera, Ira Sullivan, Bobby Few, Chuck Bergeron, Felix Gomez, etc.. has played concerts in the United States, Europe, and South America playing hundreds of concerts in a wide variety of styles. Nestor has played in many different music festivals and has also been a guest artist at various universities. As a Composer NZ has written hundreds of works. NZ was also the Director of the Jazz Department and of the Classical Saxophone Program in the National Conservatory of Ecuador. Most recently NZ moved to Miami were he leads his “Latin Jazz Ensemble”. NZ plays classical music as well as jazz and feels as comfortable playing a Solo Recital as with a Symphony Orchestra.

Credentials/Background:
Was Director and creator of the Jazz Department and Director of Classical Saxophone Program in the National Conservatory of Ecuador and has taught students in the Paris Conservatory and at the Nicolo Paganini Conservatory in Italy. Clinic/Workshop Information:
In each Clinic I address lateral thinking as a main point of study. I have students create on the spot musical compositions wile at the same time showing them de different tools at their disposal to achieve their goals. I make strong emphasis in the traditions of Jazz and play various jazz standards with the students, wile at the same time talking about improvisation, phrasing and I make special emphasis in how to utilize in the best manner their playing capacity.
