Tom Christensen is a versatile multi-instrumentalist (saxophones, English horn, oboe, flute, clarinet) and composer who has performed/recorded with various Broadway casts, Don Sebesky, Joe Lovano, the BMI Composer’s Orchestra, and the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra among many others. Known for many years as a talented sideman and in-demand double-reed instrument specialist, Christensen began demonstrating his abilities as a leader on 2000’s Gualala (Naxos) with his ongstanding quartet featuring fellow multi-reedist Charles Pillow, bassist Ben Allison, and percussionist Satoshi Takeishi. He has also released two CDs as a leader, 2002's Paths amd 2005's New York School, on the Playscape Recordings label.
