Born: October 13, 1978 Primary Instrument: Guitar
David Thomas Bailey was born in Seattle, Washington to a musical family. His father, a working drummer, instilled a love for music and developed his basic musical skills. When David was still young, the Bailey family moved to Southwest Denver, where they still live today. David's first instrument was the alto saxophone, but fell in love with the guitar at age 11. In High School, David played in local rock groups. In his junior year, David worked fast food jobs to pay for his jazz guitar lessons with Ray Biocco at Brentwood Music. David earned a Bachelors Degree from University of Colorado in Jazz and Commercial Guitar, his teachers included Ron Miles, Fred Hess, and Paul Musso. After college, David began playing the seven-string guitar emulating a jazz trio on a single instrument: balancing grooving basslines, poignent chords, and singing melody. David studied this style with mentors Charlie Hunter and Howard Alden. Now in his last year of graduate study earning a Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree at the University of Northern Colorado, David's work on the seven string is his artistic focus under the instruction of Matt Fuller and Dale Bruning. David has also studied with Jonathon Kreisberg. David spends his free time with his wife of nine-years and two sons, plays bass in a rock band called Synergy with his dad, and teaches guitar to 30 awesome students at the Olde Town Pickin' Parlor in Arvada.
