Jimmi Roger Pedersen is afreelance bass player, composer and teacher.
JRP studied double bass with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (NHØP) at Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, Denmark. For more than 15 years Jimmi toured with legendary jazz pianist Horace Parlan and backed artists such as Benny Bailey, Al Grey and Lee Konitz. He has 100+ records to his credit including twosolo bass albums. Jimmi was nominated as best solo instrumentalist in The 2009 JPF Music Awards in Nashville, TN USA.
Jimmi Roger Pedersen performs often as a solo bassist playing originals or exquisite songs suitable for the solo concept. Over the years JRP has developed a technique based on a fluent mobile left hand moving accordinglyto the rhythm using 4 fingers when needed, and a right hand continuously using 3 fingers pizzicato.
JRP is since 20 years a member of the modern Swedish jazz/fusion quartet Mwendo Dawa. The group is playing a repertoire based on elements of 12-tone and other kind of serial or symmetric music. JRP plays jazz standards with the Italian guitarist Giorgio Crobu in Classic Jazz Duo. Jimmi composes and publishes pieces for 1-4 basses, and teaches master classes/workshops around the world.
JRP hosts the Danish Bass Symposium, is initiator to the national internet portal www.basdanmark.dk, former chairman of the Danish Bass Society and 2012-2014 president of BASSEUROPE (European Society of Bassists) and was the artistic director of the European bass convention BASS2012 COPENHAGEN. Jimmi runs the company dOublebass.dk that mainly publishes music and technique for bass.
