Born in Middelburg, Netherlands, October 1980, Richard started playing the guitar at the age of 10 under the influence of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. By the time he reached 13 he got more and more interested in jazz & fusion, During this period playing in various formations (Confusion, Not James Dean, Misty Jazz Band, etc.) of different styles. At the age of 17 he was accepted at the Amsterdam University of Music where he studied with Jesse van Ruller, Maarten van der grinten, Martijn van Iterson and Ed Verhoeff. At the moment Richard lives in Oporto, Portugal where he performs frequently with his projects as a leader and co-leader with Pedro Cravinho (Doublebass) Koen van Esche, Alexandre Coelho (drums), Alex Honwana (Piano & Vocals) among others.
