Nick Andrew

Nick is a remarkably accomplished guitarist whose range encompasses the full spectrum from flamenco and classical to jazz and rock and is not only a dazzling soloist but also an intuitive and creative rhythm player. His playing style is technically highly adept but always innovative and appropriate to its musical context, whether on acoustic, electric or MIDI instruments.

Nick grew up in Scotland, where he established a formidable reputation as a virtuoso guitarist, composer, teacher and session guitarist in studios in Glasgow and Dundee. He played alongside various masters from the world of Classical and Jazz guitar including Simon Dinnegan, John Goldie, Allan Neave and Russian composer Nikita Koshkin.

He moved to London in 1997 to further develop his career, working on a wide range of solo and collaborative projects with various solo artists, cover bands, including a U2 tribute band, where Nick honed his skills in guitar effects and sound textures. He has also worked for various musical companies in the pits, as an entire orchestra!

Electric Jazz pioneers Curfew recruited Nick in 2001 on the basis of his rhythm/groove playing and he co-wrote, performed and produced Curfews latest release "Hold the Front Page".

Also in 2005 Nick wrote, performed, produced and independently released his first solo CD called “Solo?”. On this album Nick played all the instruments himself. All on guitar! (Even the violas, drums, whooshes and gongs) using modern Midi guitar technology, and a wee computer. He has provided electric and acoustic guitars for Pop/Folk band S-KB’s forthcoming album and also featured in the videos.

Nick has performed both solo and with Curfew at numerous venues including Wembley Arena, Hyde Park, Dundee guitar festival, and most recently at the London Guitar show, Music Live, Retrofest near Glasgow and the Alloutguitarfest in Northampton.

Recently, Nick has produced and orchestrated an album for Prog rockers, Vienna Circle. Currently, Nick is gigging/performing masterclasses with Curfew and playing for the 16-year-old drum prodigy, Lee Arron who came 2nd in the Young Drummer of the Year. There are also a large number of Rock, Pop, Funk, Jazz (of all styles) and Soul cover bands that employ Nick’s services as a dep (especially at short notice) either as a guitarist or keyboard player (on Guitar!). Also, Nick performs solo master-classes for a number of music schools and colleges in the South East.

In addition to performing, Nick writes two columns Jazz/Fusion style guitar and Midi guitar for Europe’s top online guitar magazine, alloutguitar.com.

Illustrating the advantages of having studied Classical/Jazz composition and learnt the trade as a session player and function band member, Nick presents a debut album that shifts from Rimsky-Korsakov via Paganini, to his own Concerto for Electric Guitar and Orchestra.

Unique and imaginative, his mastery of the solo guitar shines throughout.
