Born: April 11, 1975 Primary Instrument: Drums
Musa grew up in Swaziland where he attended primary and High school. He did A'levels at Waterford College and then enrolled at the University of Swaziland to do Bsc, majoring in Maths and Physics. In between his studies he would experiment with drums from time to time. He then moved from Swaziland and came back home in South Africa in 1997. He has been in the art business for the past 15 years. Started off as a drummer in church, and then moved to a school band. He has been rythymic since from childhood, taken from his dad who was a bassist and pianist. He then started dancing and acting. He travelled the USA, EUROPE and local gigs in South Africa. He was also a correspondent Journalist whilst at school with the SWAZI TV. He developed an interest in media. He started in the industry as a production co ordinator. He then moved up to producing short films. At the time of sending this Biography, he is content producer and show producer for local talkshows on TV. He teaches drumming to beginners in his neiborhood. He enjoys contemporary Jazz, fusing it with all other musical elements. He is an ear type of musician, which is what He encourage his students to fuse with their theory lessons. He a soulfull drummer. He looks up to all the greats that have ever lived and he wouldn't be doing justice to list them hear, but one that is doing it for him at the moment is Harvey Mason of FOURPLAY. Amongst the young guys he is deeply impressed by Steve Harvey who plays with Anthony Hamilton. Locally here in South Africa He is a big fan of BAFANA SUKWENI, who plays with Simphiwe Dana. Personally, he has bumped into the likes of Hugh Masekela, Jonathan Butler and had the chance to jam with them. I am still learning, because I believe that I am as good as my last gig, he says with a shy face. Good as he is, he still mainatains that he is an underground type of drummer but very ripe for public and international acclaim. Musa recently played with his band JamnJazz in the Feature Film called DEATH OF A QUEEN, which was nominated for best local drama/film at the South African Film Festival. This was a composition that they created on stage which blew the Series Director away.
