Kris McKenzie

Kris McKenzie has been actively involved in music as a performer, arranger, or composer since the age of eight. Born and educated in Indiana, she has written music for the concert stage, independent film, theatre, and local television programs. Her composition teachers include Dr. Michael Schelle at Butler University.

As a performer, McKenzie has played in a variety of bands, including traditional wind ensembles, swing bands, ska and rock groups, and chamber orchestras. She has toured the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe and East Asia. Her repertoire includes works by Hummel, Clarke, Holst, Copland, Grainger, Vaughn Williams, Giannini, and others. She has been a featured soloist at weddings, served as a bugler for military funerals in her home and surrounding states, and has played in the pit orchestra for several musical productions.

When not composing or performing, McKenzie enjoys various activities, including mountain biking, rowing, crossword puzzles, reading, backpacking, kayaking, and local politics. She is also an active volunteer with agencies such as the American Red Cross and ASPCA. An accomplished hiker, she has logged close to 5,000 miles and has summited Mount Shasta, as well as both Mount Hood and Mount Adams. Twice.

A fan of frequent flyer miles, McKenzie divides her time between Los Angeles and Indianapolis (and Chicago, Boston, Atlanta...).
