Carol Sokoloff

Carol Sokoloff is a Canadian jazz vocalist and songwriter, performing regularly in the Victoria, BC (Canada) region with the excellent jazz combo, Trio Espresso featuring Kenny Seidman, piano, Mike Cox, acoustic bass and Kelby McNayr, drums. Known for her warm vocals and an improvised approach to the standards, Carol Sokoloff is also a talented songwriter who is now creating 'New Standards' songs with the style and feel of the great American songbook. Carol had the good fortune to meet and get to know some of the great songwriters, specifically the Harold Arlen and his collaborator, lyricist Yip Harburg. Somehow some of their magic rubbed off! Kurt Elling writes, "Carol Sokoloff is a budding and intuitively gifted songwriter. Her composition, 'Winter Moon" reminds me of the work of Hoagy Carmichael..." Trio Espresso has been making 'Tasty Jazz' for five years, playing clubs and concert dates and private engagements. The band has recently been recording and hopes to release an album in 2009. In addityion to writing words and musica to new songs, Sokoloff has also penned lyrics to jazz instrumentals by Shorter, Hubbard, Waller.

Carol Sokoloff is a budding and intuitively gifted songwriter. Her composition, "Winter Moon" reminds me of the work of Hoagy Carmichael. The direct, plain-spoken and sweet-natured approach Sokoloff used has a similar clarity and charm. She certainly deserves encouragement and support.
