Suzy Dalton

Vocalist Suzy Dalton has followed an unlikely path to the world of jazz. She began her music career touring with a country band as a vocalist and bass guitarist, sharing the stage with country legends like Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings, and Loretta Lynn. But a stint playing bass for a blues band re-ignited her desire to sing the music with which she was raised.

"I grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, and was attracted to the raw emotion that jazz singers wring from a song." She lists her strongest influences as Sarah Vaughan, Diana Krall, and Eartha Kitt. "Eartha inspired me in that she had such a glamour about her, but didn't take herself too seriously."

In 2007 she formed The Suzy Dalton Jazz Quintet featuring Suzy on vocals and electric bass with an ensemble of piano, acoustic bass, drums, and sax, performing a variety of jazz standards and blues mixed with the international touch of songs in French, Portugese, Japanese and Italian.

In 2008 the chanteuse released her first jazz album, “La Vie En Rose”, and made her debut with two sold out shows at the annual VF Outlet Berks Jazz Fest, the third largest jazz festival in the nation. Later that year she appeared at the popular Gerald Veasley’s Jazz Base, along with Grammy-award winning composer Eumir Deodato. She is currently at work on a second album.

Suzy returns to the Berks Jazz Fest in 2009 with performances at the legendary Peanut Bar Restaurant on April 1, and at the long-standing YR Club in Wyomissing on April 4.
